It is of great importance that you take care of your jewelry so they’ll be able to give you pleasure for many years to come.
General for gold and silver jewelry
Wipe the jewelry with a soft cloth when you’ve used it and do not wear your jewelry when you’re sleeping, working or performing other activities that risk damaging the jewelry. Contact with detergent, perfume, hand washing etc. can damage your jewelry.
Silver reacts with sulfur in the air and on the skin etc. which in the long run will tend to make your jewelry either yellow or a bit black. If this happens, polish your jewelry with silver-suited cleaning polish.
Our oxidized jewelry are easily cleaned with a silver polish cloth. Avoid putting the jewelry in silver polish solvent as this can bleach the dark surface. We recommend that you oxidize the dark surface after some use to keep the dark surface.
Wipe your pearls with a linen towel. Do not expose your pearls of moisture and/or perfume. Rethreading of pearl necklace should be done every year because the pearl silk will become dirty and brittle with time. Chemicals with alkalines, soap for example dries out the pearls and make them matte.
Avoid contact with makeup, creams and perfumes. The chemicals in cosmetics, creams and perfumes can at repeated contact discolor your jewelry.
Avoid wearing your jewelry, especially jewelry with pearls, while bathing, showering or doing dishes.
Chlorine and salt water
Remember that jewelry must not come in contact with chlorine or salt water, as this makes the surface dull and lusterless.
The best maintenance and to keep your jewelry in top condition is to get your jewelry checked once a year by a certified goldsmith. We welcome your Theresia Hvorslev jewelry in any of our ateliers, where our goldsmiths can make your jewelry look like new.
